French Polynesia is a group of paradise islands located in the South Pacific Ocean, more than 15,000 kilometers from mainland France.
It is made up of 118 islands divided into five distinct archipelagos:
the Society Islands, with the famous Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora;
the Tuamotu, a multitude of atolls including Rangiroa, Fakarava, and Tikehau;
the Marquesas, mountainous islands farther north, such as Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa;
the Australs, in the south, with islands like Tubuai and Rurutu;
the Gambier, more isolated, clustered around the main island Mangareva.
The total land area of these islands may be just a tiny dot on the map, but they stretch across more than 4 million square kilometers of ocean—a vast territory almost the size of the European Union!
Each of these archipelagos has its own character, unique landscapes, and traditions.
Some are volcanic, others are coral; some offer pink-sand beaches, others wild valleys, turquoise lagoons, or steep mountains.
