THE BIRDS ISLAND IN TIKEHAU

I woke up at 06:10am. Shower and clothing. I had breakfast at 07:30am.

Today, I went to an excursion on the Birds Island at 08:45am. We were 11 persons and 2 members of the crew of animation. The boat trip lasted about 40 mn to go the the Birds Island. The trip went well, I looked at the horizon so that I wasn’t sick. We finally arrived. And the name suited very well the Birds Island. There were hundreds and hundreds of birds (nothing to do with the Birds Island in Rangiroa). I was able to see birds in their nests with their babies, or flying or in groups... I saw eggs and very young birds. It was very impressive.

Then, we got on the boat again to go to a motu to have lunch and swim. The menu was: raw fish with coconut milk, grilled fish, rice with coconut milk.

After lunch, we took a rest on the beach during an hour.

Then, we got on the boat again to visit the Eden Island. The Eden Community went on a motu a few years ago and tried to prove that they could do with what was at hand (without any pesticides or other things), and they could cultivate/grow all kinds of vegetables, fruits and plants (the Garden of Eden). They reared also hens and pigs. There were only two families on the island (6 adults and 4 children). Their “priest” comes to see them once a year. A few years ago, they also cultivated pearls in their pearls farms and more than 50 persons worked for them. But due to the crisis of the pearl, they stopped doing this activity.

Then, after the visit, we got on the boat again to stop for a short while at a place called “the pink sand”.

Actually the sand was rather salmon colored. It was like a big open-air swimming pool...

Then, I came back to the Pension at 5:00pm. I took a shower, washed some clothes and took a rest until dinner time. The menu tonight was: marinated raw fish, sauteed trevally fish with green beans and vanilla ice-cream bar for dessert.

I went to bed at 10:00pm.
