EXPLORATION OF THE 3 VALLEYS
Today was a full day of exploration of the 3 valleys (Taipivai, Hatiheu, Aakapa).
Jocelyne came to pick us up with her car (ATV). We went first to Taipivai, then Hatiheu. The landscapes were, as everywhere and always in the Marquesas, BEAU-TI-FUL and WILD!!!
We walked a little bit to the pass of Anaho.
We arrived at the village of Hatiheu where we first had lunch at the local restaurant “Chez Yvonne”, and then spent the night in a nice small bungalow. The food of the restaurant “Chez Yvonne” is very well-known. So I really enjoyed as a main course, the curry of the goat of the Marquesas and for dinner I chose the marinated raw fish with coconut milk. I asked during lunch whether they had poe for dessert (poe is a typical Polynesian dessert with crystallized fruits and fresh coconut milk. It’s a Polynesian fruit pudding). They said that they will cook it especially for us for our dinner!!! So we ate this delicious and very fresh pumpkin poe for dinner!!! (it was even a little bit warm!!!). YUMMYLICIOUS!!!
The village of Hatiheu is also magnificent. I even preferred it to the village of Taiohae. I thought it was wilder and more charming...
The afternoon we went for a walk to the peaks of Aakapa, then we visited the archaeological sites of Hikokua and Kamueihi.
After the visit, we came back to the village of Hatiheu to have dinner and to sleep.
Have a good night... My bungalow was very close to the beach, so I fell asleep with the sound of the ocean...
