DISCOVERY DAY OF THE WATERFALL OF HAKAHUI
Today is a discovery day of the waterfall of Hakahui.
Just before, Etienne, the husband of Jocelyne, will take us for a ride by boat during one hour and a half. We will able to see the bays of Haapaa, Taipivai, and Hoomi. Then we will go to the bay of Hakatea where we will hike to the waterfall...
We got to this nice little beach!!!
Where a little crab came to welcome us!
Hiking to the waterfall of Hakahui (the third tallest waterfall of the Pacific with 350m) is about 3h30 total round trip. We will have lunch on site.
On our way, we saw amazing and beautiful landscapes. We crossed the gorges of the Royal Valley where there were many archaeological vestiges.
On the way, just before arriving at the waterfall, we had lunch (sandwich and fresh local mango).
Actually, it is very dangerous to have lunch close to the waterfall because there are many falling rocks regularly. Some accidents happened many times and even very recently: a very small rock landed on the head of a tourist and by the force of the fall, the rock practically opened his head. Since then, the tourists who want to hike to the waterfall must wear a safety helmet and must stay only a few minutes close to the waterfall at the same place.
Here is a picture of my group wearing the safety helmet!!!
After the hike, we came back slowly to the Pension by powerboat. We saw a couple of wild manta rays (FA- BU-LOUS!!!). They were fishing some big fishes for their dinner!!! They were majestic when they spread their wings... I couldn’t take a picture because the powerboat was moving too much and too fast
Quiet dinner and night at the Pension... See U tomorrow!
