THE REEF ISLAND OF RANGIROA

I woke up at 06:15am. Shower, clothing and breakfast.

Today, I went to an excursion on the Reef Island. Léon, from the Paati Excursions company went to pick me up at the Pension to drive me to the departure dock of the excursion. We were 11 persons and 2 “animators”.

The boat trip to the Reef Island was about an hour. The ocean was a little bit quieter than for the excursion to the Blue Lagoon, but I was very sick. I had very strong nausea. Another woman on the boat vomited. I needed at least ten minutes after the arrival to the Reef Island to recover. Léon took me to the group who was already on the beach with Reire, the other animator. The place was amazing, the water was so clear...

We swam, did some snorkeling, then we went for a walk to the place where the reef was. The landscape was rather eerie.

I took some pictures then we went on the other motu to have lunch. The menu was: rice, raw fish, grilled chicken, grilled mahi-mahi, coconut bread and coconut cake.

After lunch, Léon and Reire played music (guitar and ukulele) and sang. It was great because they were very talented!!!

Then, we came back to the Pension. I stayed at the front of the boat and I looked at the horizon so that I didn’t get sick. No problem on the way back!!!

On our way back, we stopped at a place called “the aquarium”. It was really fabulous. It was a natural, open-air aquarium in the middle of the lagoon... There were hundreds and hundreds of different fish of different colors. We threw them some bread and they pounced on it, like in a normal aquarium. It was a breathtaking beauty...

Then, we went to the Pass of Tiputa to try to see some dolphins... and we were lucky because a group of dolphins was there. Seeing dolphins was always impressive...

Then I came back to the Pension around 6:00pm. Shower and dinner. The menu tonight was: raw fish with a Chinese sauce, fried mahi-mahi, rice and strawberry yogurt.

I went to bed at 10:00pm.
