TREKKING AT TE PARI
Today early waking up because we needed to be ready to go for a hike at 7:30am, after having breakfast.
Today, we are going to a place called TE PARI (which means “cliff” in Tahitian language). It’s a place which is totally wild with a specific biodiversity. We are trekking on the wild coast of the peninsula (ocean and mountains), coves, cliffs, luxuriant vegetation, and visits of small valleys. To go to this place, we need to take a small powerboat during about 20mn. Then we are going to hike for about 6 hours.
From the bungalows, we walked to the marina to take the powerboat (only 15mn walk). We got on board and let’s start the day!
We arrived twenty minutes later. The peninsula of Tahiti made me think of the American TV serie “Lost”...
The trekking began in the heart of the wild nature. The level of this trekking was far higher for me. I had some troubles to follow the group. One hour after the beginning, I slid because there was a big difference in altitude and I am not used at all to trekking on this kind of trekking grounds. I cracked up a little bit and I shook. I thought that I was having a spasmophilia crisis. The other persons of my group gave me water and a sweet drug and the guide helped me in continuing the trekking... After this hitch, soon forgotten, I nevertheless enjoyed the trekking and the wild place. It’s quite grandiose...
We came back at 3:00pm at the marina. We took our bags then we went to another Pension: The Pension of the Beach.
Located in Punaauia, at 15km from Papeete, the Pension of the Beach is a very cool Pension. The bungalows are big (I will share one with Françoise and Elisabeth). The managers, Anne-Marie and Vincent are very friendly and welcoming. The snack they prepared for us was substantial: boiled eggs, bread, butter, homemade jams, fresh local fruits (pineapple, grapefruit, mango...).
Just before dinner, Eric, the guide, told me that the tomorrow trekking in the Lava Tubes is very difficult and advised me to do something else. I agreed with pleasure because I know what are my limits. I will ask the managers of the Pension about the activities I can do.
After a very good dinner cooked by our hosts, I was very tired and we all went to bed very early...
