CONTINUATION OF THE EXPLORATION DE MANGAREVA

I woke up at 06:15am. Shower, clothing and breakfast. It was raining since this morning and because there was no wind, it may rain all day long!

This morning, I would like to go to the Convent, but I will wait a little bit until the rain will be not so heavy. Otherwise, I will stay in my bungalow today.

But at 09:30am, the rain stopped. I went for a walk first at the Mausoleum of the King Maputeoa.

Then I went to the Convent of Rouru:

Then, I went to the village of Rikitea to take some other pictures:

After the walk, I came back to the Pension. I met Mai, a Mangarevan man. He was 40-year-old. He told me that he was a “pure” Mangarevan, a direct descendent of the royal family of Rikitea. He added that in Mangareva, only 10% of the population was “pure” Mangarevan, all the rest came from the other islands of Polynesia. I asked him what he was doing and he answered me that he was hunting the wild goats because they devastated the nests of the birds and that the wild goats were really a curse.

Then, I took a rest until the dinner. The menu tonight was: raw fish marinated with ginger, grilled mahi-mahi, fried eggplants and litchis for dessert (there are actually many litchi trees at the Gambier Islands).

Then I went to bed at 9:00pm.
